KEN EWING

Instructor

I have lived in Oregon since 1978.  In 2004 I started training in defensive pistol.  Over the years this training has grown to nearly 1000 hours and includes extensive training from nationally known instructors such as Massad Ayoob, Tom Givens, and Mike Seeklander.  My training covers a wide spectrum of topics, including the following:  pistol, rifle, and shotgun skills; police procedure; self-defense law; pre-attack indicators; home security; trauma medicine; and disaster response.

Since 2011 I have worked as a professional firearms instructor.  My class offerings include the following:  intro to handgun; action shooting skills; qualification for the Oregon and Utah concealed carry licenses; Kubotan training; self-defense awareness, and private coaching.

In other areas, I have 40 years’ experience as a professional writer in the high-tech industry.  I also have a graduate-level certificate in training from Portland State University and I am a certified trainer in the corporate environment.

Finally, I have over 20 years of training in the martial art of aikido.  I currently hold a rank of sandan (3rd degree black belt) and I am an assistant instructor at the Oregon Ki Society.
